Skills Assessment Program

Our Skills Assessment program is a series of 53 videos, broken up into three stages.  They are what Al considers to be the essentials needed to properly train a horse.  You record yourself, duplicating each individual task and submit your video.  Al will respond with feedback and you will either pass or be asked to re-do and re-submit.   We provide rewards for completing each stage. There are two ways to participate with the Skills Assessment program.  The first is to simply use the Skill Assessments as a challenge, a goal, and a way to measure your progress.  The second is to use the Skill Assessments as a pathway towards becoming a Team AD Accredited trainer.

Start Here: Our Skill Assessment Stages build upon one another. Please begin with Stage One.

Stage 1
250.00

Stage One skills are the basics that every rider and trainer should master to be a proficient horseman. These tasks can be done on any age horse, as this stage focuses mainly on the rider.

Stage Three skills are the advanced training techniques for use across many disciplines. Stage Three is the culmination of the program, building on Stage One and Two to further advance in the maneuvers used at the show and on the ranch for any well-broke horse.  For this stage, it is necessary to have a horse with more skill.

Step 2
Film yourself duplicating the skill

Best Practice when filming;

  • Shoot horizontally. Shooting while holding your phone vertically will lead to black bars on the side of the screen
  • Hold it steady! If you don't have a tri-pod, try resting your phone on a stable surface while shooting.
  • Check your lighting. The best videos are shot in natural sunlight.
